Founded by Katlego Mokwana, Mother of Gao creates clothing, accessories, and lifestyle objects that balance functionality with playful design. Every piece is guided by a commitment to longevity and responsible production, using organic materials, natural dye techniques, zero-waste design principles, and small-batch manufacturing wherever possible.

The name Mother of Gao comes from Katlego's daughter, Gaopaleloe, affectionately known as Gao. Her name means one who is not defeated, a reflection of resilience, strength, and hope. These values are woven into the foundation of the brand, inspiring products that are crafted with care, designed to endure, and made with future generations in mind.

More than creating products, Mother of Gao encourages a slower, more considered way of living. We believe the things we bring into our lives should be useful, beautiful, and enduring becoming lasting companions rather than temporary possessions.
